The Genesis Series is a performing art drawing project by James LoParo and Robin Hill. It is based on the four classical elements of antiquity: earth, fire, air and water. The artworks were created along a strip of sand in Miami Beach in the summer of 2012. LoParo and Hill would alternate their roles between photographer and artist, performer and observer, actor and director to produce the permanent artworks recorded via photography. The two artists would cut a 40-foot sculpture into the sand which they would then set on fire. Utilizing a light painting brush they would perform a gestural dance in front of the camera for 30 seconds. Sometimes passers-by would be given their own brush and would join in with intriguing effect!
