Robin Hill

Robin Hill is a photographer and television host with a feeling for the fine and lively arts. A native of Sherwood Forest, England based in Miami, Hill brings a spontaneous flair to his subject matter, whether it be his Museum quality Fine Art photography or one of his favorite topics, the vibrant tropical Modernist architecture of his adopted city.

Since 1987, he has shot more than 250 magazine covers. Hill’s award-winning work has appeared in leading art, design and architecture publications including Vogue, WallPaper, Dwell, Architectural Record, Architecture, plus Home Miami and Inside Out both for which he is a contributing editor. Distinguished by a painterly eye for color and a jazz musician’s ability to improvise with the opportune moment, Hill’s photographs have been exhibited at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and The Municipal Art Society amongst many others.

In addition to his still photography, Hill has wide-ranging experience in other media, as the dashing, Indiana Jones-like host of Florida Public Television’s Suncoast Emmy Award Winning quarterly “ART 360” program, a production consultant on mid-century Modern architecture for Atom Egoyan’s film “Where the Truth Lies” and as a songwriter for “The Birth of Freedom” recorded by Inner Voice.

One of Hill’s particular areas of expertise is the architectural style that has come to be known as Miami Modern, or MiMo for short, typified by the exuberant resort architecture of Morris Lapidus and other masters of mid-century tropical Modernism. Hill’s contributions to the book “MiMo: Miami Modern Revealed by Eric P. Nash and Randall C. Robinson Jr. (Chronicle, 2004) were instrumental in having Biscayne Boulevard be declared the city’s first MiMo historical preservation district. He is also a frequent slideshow lecturer on MiMo, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier and other architectural topics.

Hill’s work is widely varied, spanning the interplay of shadow, light and color in architectural design as well as the grace of water in motion, but is unified by a spiritual appreciation of the power of the moment and the appearance of the miraculous in the everyday.
